DEFEND THE CROWN!

Pursuant to proposal 2002/03:46, made by the cabinet to the riksdag on January 23rd, there will be a referendum Sunday, September 14 2003, on the question of whether or not Sweden should implement the third step of the European Monetary Union, which would include replacing the Swedish national currency with the paneuropean currency of Euro.

The government proposal will be enacted as law. Among its contents is the grant of 48 million kronor to campaign organisations on the side of the opponents in the referendum, and 42 million kronor to campaign organisations on the side of the supporters.

Riksdag politicians and NGO:s, meeting the requirements in the proposed legislation, met on February 3rd to form an association with the sole purpose of dividing the 48 million kronor on the opposing side. Along with a Göteborg based stalinist party, the campaign organisation "Försvara kronan!", supported inter alia by the Sweden Democrats Party, Sweden Democrats Youth, National Democratic Student Association and Progress Party of Bjuv, were denied to participate. The Sweden Democrats Party won close to 1,5% of the votes in the general elections of 2002.

This being clearly in violation of proposed legislation the Sweden Democrats Party is at present investigating the possibilities of taking legal action and apply of the equivalent of a writ of certiorari against the government, stopping the payments to the association formed on February 3rd.

Should "Försvara kronan!" be shut out of the association of February 3rd, "Försvara kronan!" would also be denied an apportionment of ballots and the opportunity of participating in public debates.

"Försvara kronan!" is an organisation determined to defend Swedish sovereignty. The policy of the organisation is that by joining the euro states of the European Union, Sweden would irreparably be deprived of that national sovereignty. It is also deemed unwise in any event to take that step before the effects of the Future Convention of the European Union can be assessed. Finally it is considered by the organisation that no compelling economic arguments for joining the euro states have been presented as of yet.
